If more positions are cut at the Tertiary Education Commission it
will affect tertiary institutions.
That is one of the concerns raised after it was said that 120 more jobs
will be cut from the Commission.
Heta Gardiner has this report.
If they take from the rear, it will be felt at the fore.
There are many issues, many policies and many new systems,
so they will affect us all.
The management of this institute is being changed to suit those changes.
A new year and new cuts to the Tertiary Education Commission.
In 2009, around 70 jobs were cut
and they're looking to do the same this year.
It is said that over 110 positions will be cut,
but some will be replaced and around 40 will be cut.
Leaving a few to do the work of many.
That is a problem and problem that will affect Maori wananga.
However, the Tertiary Education Commission has this warning.
This is not about just cutting jobs, that is a by-product.
But we aim to change the vision of tertiary institutions
and to strengthen the Tertiary Education Commission.
Some are now opposing the government on this matter,
but Tawhirimatea doesn't agree.
We can only hope that the government of the time
provides proper support for our institutions
for the growth of the language and retention of Maori knowledge.
It is not known if this will be the final cut
to the Tertiary Education Commission.
Heta Gardiner, Te Karere.
