is happening today around the globe, there are still people that go hungry. And the reason
is not because we don't produce enough food, it is because we can't preserve it. Over 40%
of the food is wasted because we can't package them very effectively.
0:00:21:000,0:00:29:500 >> KURT ADAMS: One of the biggest challenges
that we face is translating the science and technology of the packages that you see in
you grocery store to feed a growing population.
0:00:25:000,0:00:56:000 >> JOHN MAHAFFIE: The thing we got to work
on, from now on, is how to get as sustainable as we can in the way humans live on earth.
There is no question that packaging today is better than it was 5 and 10 and 20 years
ago. A package can be much more than just a container. Imagine a package that could
triple or quadruple shelf life. Imagine a package that can actually purify water. It's
becoming possible.
0:00:56:500,0:01:07:00 >> KURT ADAMS: There is a tremendous amount
of science that's been put into packages. We collaborate with brand owners or end users
like Heinz to develop products for their end users.
0:01:07:500,0:01:24:000 >> MICHAEL OKORAOFOR: The people at Heinz
that have worked on some of these projects feel like they are part of their colleagues
at DuPont. When you surround yourself with talented people -- with good people that have
the passion to do well, that have the passion to make an impact -- great things happen.
0:01:24:500,0:01:35:500 >> JOHN MAHAFFIE: The package of the future
is going to affect humanity in a positive way much more than we can imagine today. We
can add a lot of technology and a lot of capabilities to packaging so that it does more things for
more people.
0:01:36:000,0:01:56:000 >> KURT ADAMS: But to the typical consumer
you don't see that, you see the convenience, you see a good shelf life. You don't see the
science and technology, and maybe you shouldn't. But those of us that are in the business can
look at that same package and say, "I've made a difference today. I'll make a difference
tomorrow."
