Anchor>>Making sure people with hearing and vision loss are connected to technology. That
was the purpose behind a gathering at RIT's national technical institute for the deaf.
Students and staff were given a hands-on demonstration of the state-of-the-art technology through
the "i- can-connect program." the federally funded program connects people with significant
vision and hearing loss through the high-tech communication equipment. A big portion of
the ten million dollar a year national program is targeted for the Empire State.
Susan Rusenski>>"New York state has about 470- thousand dollars to offer this adaptive
equipment for telecommunications access for people who are deaf-blind in the state of
New York. We can also offer specialized training in order to utilize the equipment."
Anchor>> Attendees also viewed a video outlining the highlights of the program. More than 13-hundred
students at n-t-i-d are deaf or hard of hearing.
