JO WHILEY: Tell us a bit about the clip you did online with Paul McGann
STEVEN MOFFAT: The Night of the Doctor? Now I know that I can be irritating sometimes,
but am I not right that it is better that we keep secrets. Is that not right?
Now, the reason I'm asking this question, I'm happy to hear that reaction, because some
of the people in here will be bloggers and some people in here will be journalists, I
believe the audience want us to keep secrets and to surprise you to give you that thrill
now and then. That's why we sometimes, or even always, lie.
Its not because we're evil, its that we just want to give you a treat!
There were blogs online already, I regret to say, that were putting up photographs of
Paul McGann and giving it away. That's why we brought it forward. Why we rushed
it out and said get to your televisions, or your iPlayers - I'm so modern - in an hour,
and get there and watch it and get the thrill. Because people were already showing off that
they knew! There's nothing, that's not news, its fiction,
it's not news. You shouldn't be blurting out lovely secrets like that.
So, please, tell everybody who is inclined to spoil your stories for you that you would
like them to shut the *** up! I bet that there's some some guy somewhere
sat in this room that just went 'ooooooops!'.
