- The programming in all of the theatres through the summer period,
as part of Summer At The House, is incredibly dynamic programming
happening in every theatre, all through the day and through the night.
And so the idea then was to kind of fling the doors open
and have that energy spill out into the foyers
and then, in turn, spill out onto the forecourt.
There was room for a lot more colour and movement outside
to reflect what was going on inside the theatres.
There's great kids' shows. The site opens at 8:30 in the morning
and goes right through until late at night.
That was always an important part of it
in that, if possible, it had to be one thing during the day
and then, of course, that same space and environment had to cater...
So we've kind of worked on the idea of creating a playground outside,
and then, by day, it's heaving with families
and there's the sand pit and there's toys and over-sized Jenga, et cetera,
but then you gradually see, as the sun sets,
which is really nice, it just sort of becomes an adult playground.
And then the bands come on stage up on the colonnade.
And it really does change personality.
It's been a fantastic experience. How often do you get to
play in the foyers of one of the most famous venues in the world?
