When I was a junior at UNCG, I took Communication Ethics with Dr. Bracci.
I am a very vocal student, and so going to class, and talking
and bouncing ideas off of people is very important
for me to learn.
Dr. Bracci has had the patience
to sit down with me and read my writing
and try to understand my discombobulated ideas
about the environment,
and learning about environmental ethics
and how rough things are for us right now
kind of gave me the inspiration to make a change.
And she's been sitting here the whole time
facilitating the change in me as a student.
She really inspired me to read certain types of books
so when I came back as a senior
we started an independent study together.
She has fostered my passion toward environmentalism.
I made Dean's List last semester
and I honestly think it's because
of how much she's pushed me
to be a better student.
In my independent study
I wrote a large paper
about the four major environmental issues
we're facing today.
We went in and we broke apart
how people are currently talking about these issues.
Is it "doom and gloom,"
or is it "we can make a change?"
And I rewrote them to be exciting
and innovative and attractive
so people would want to help make a difference
and not be so scared of change.
I do think my independent study
will help me get a job once I graduate,
because I have something to show people
who want to hire me.
I think, coming out of college
that's really powerful.
