Good morning! Today is Monday, April 8th, 2013,
and a week ago we took off on the road, on a mission to Columbus.
It's the weekend of MARCON, the biggest science fiction and fantasy costuming event in the midwest,
and the Columbus debut of The Kilted Klingon Room Party.
By "we," I mean myself Joel "TwistyNye," and my cohorts in crime,
Daniel McNamera, there behind the wheel, and "Howie" Holdren,
our award-winning barkeep.
We spent two hours in a Jeep packed to the gills with party supplies,
until we arrive in downtown Columbus, at the Hyatt Regency and Convention Center.
Once we got our gear to the room, we spent four hours arranging furniture, and hanging decorations and banners.
So once that was done, we had time to kill and went off hunting for 3D holograms.
BARFLEET: "Hang on, I don't have the little symbol on my forehead." [Red Dwarf reference, "H" for hologram.]
The attendance of MARCON has been down, since their switch to the weekend of Easter,
but they continue to be a remarkable showcase of costuming talents, writers, and gamers.
The hallways have table with clubs and movie productions,
There's a 24 hour Anime room, and there is a hospitality suite that will keep you fed the entire weekend.
It's also a chance to meet artists, writers, and game designers... For instance, Bree Orlock.
BREE ORLOCK: "Hello."
You look glorious.
V: "Did you get her, too?"
Yeah.
V: "Is she great?"
You are glorious!
V: "Is she making bunny ears?"
No, she's looking staunch and aggressive.
So now it's time for The Kilted Klingon Room Party to bring its game on!
"Howie" Holdren brings his masterful mixicology to the Bibacious Battle Bar,
We have planetscapes, Klingon streamers, musical playlists,
and a mural of the Klingon Home World Capital City.
Of course, the party isn't complete witut the personalities of Dan McNamera and Tory Borkowski,
and numerous others who add to the life of the party.
And it wouldn't even be a party if it weren't for the attendees who come to enjoy
the pleasures and fun we have to offer.
Over all, MARCON gave us a wonderful opportunity to extend our fun experience to friends near and far.
We'll be seeing our friends later this month at the Steampunk Symposium,
and then having The Kilted Klingon Room Party back to PandoraCon in October.
So until then, this is Joel "TwistyNye," wishing you "Happy Trails,"
See you next week.
