28 APRIL 2016: "LES AFFAMÉES" MUSICAL SHOW
[Houda Karafli, student at Sciences Po] The topic of the show is women activists
anywhere in the world,
whether they are engaged politically
at national level in their country
or more on a personal scale
in their everyday lives
[Margaux Lefebvre, student at Sciences Po]
It's committed women, artists, activists
involved in the world's cultures.
[Antoine Gely, student at Sciences Po]
We're artists from Sciences Po
all different because
there are musicians, singers,
dancer in my case.
But there are also a lot of musicians from Alfortville
who train there,
who are really good and have groups too.
We also have musicians who are refugees.
[Samer Younes, "Welcome Refugees" program] My name is Samer Younes,
I am a Syrian of Palestinian origin
I'm participating in the show
with a friend,
a Syrian girl as well.
We share the text.
The author of the text
is very well known in the Arab world,
his name is Mahmoud Darwish,
he is Palestinian.
I'm singing solo a song called
"Strange Fruits"
by Billie Holiday
I play percussion for the oriental dance
and next to that,
Houda does an oriental dance solo.
The story of the dance really tries,
through the movements,
to represent the oppression and the liberation
that a woman can experience over her lifetime.
The idea is to have artistic genres dialogue with each other
in addition to a dialogue between men and women
and a dialogue between people
from different regions of the world,
different countries.
Now we have a good group, a lot of diversity,
and it's pretty cool
to be exchanging with people
we would never have met otherwise.
