polishing your car correctly.
See the products that are lined up on the floor? All made by Presta. All completely
environmental safe, water-based products which happen to be, as far as we know, the best
products on the market right now.
The new money that goes into the paint and the detailing product is usually put into
their waterlines. They don't really spend money on the old, oil-based lines anymore.
A lot of times they're more expensive, but it is worth the money sometimes. One of the
details of the car, he's actually rinsing it off. He's getting all the little cracks
and the little crevices. He's not just giving it like a once-over on the outside.
See how he just went by the windshield wipers which is where you get a lot of leaves and
debris. He's going onto the running boards, you see how he's going onto...you know when
we wash the car down, we go into the cracks and crevices. You know, don't just clean the
outside of the car. Because the problem areas are going to be basically-- you see the top
of the fender, with the hood resting on top of the fender, which is where you got a lot
of dirt and debris that build up. This product that we're holding in front of you right now,
that's the wax side of it.
And the other side is a sponge material, it's made by Presta, it comes with this spray and
shine equipment. What that is, is basically when we wash the car, the first side which
is actually the yellow side, oop, he just dropped it in the floor. If you see a drop
on the floor, one tip that I can give that is very important, make sure that you wash
it thoroughly. The last thing that you want to do, when you first start a car or if a
product drops on the floor, when your sponges or something drops on the floor...make sure
you clean it thoroughly. Because you will scratch the car with any kind of debris that's
stuck on it.
It will scratch the car once it eats through that paint, you're going to have to paint
that panel again. It will be a very expensive mistake so it's one of the biggest tips we
can give you. It's to make sure your products are clean as you're using them. You see what
he's going over the car, he's after...he hits it first with the yellow part of the sponge.
To clean off the spongy side when you wash the car down, is what cleans off all the normal
dirt and the normal debris that goes on there. Then the clay side which is the grey side
that you see, it's a clay.
It's very easy to clay a car with that. It's not like the old style clay bars which is
just clay is actually built up, it's dried up wax. What the clay actually does, when
you go over the second time with the clay side, that pulls out the stuck-in debris that's
stuck in the orange peel of the paint. It pulls all that and it gives a really nice
shine. Right now, he's wiping everything off with the shammy. When you first open a shammy
up, you want to make sure that you wash it thoroughly. Because when you first buy it,
it's going to be very hard, it comes as almost like a piece of cardboard.
Then when you wash it, it breaks down and becomes very soft like a rag. What he's doing
right now, he's going over the car. He's going into the cracks, the crevices, that's very
important...to get into the cracks and crevices because that's where the built up water gets.
Then when you're going to wax a car, there's nothing worse than going to wax a car and
all the water's coming out in all the little crevices. And this is after the car dried.
There's nothing worse than going to wax the car and then all of a sudden, as you're doing
it, the water's falling on the wax.
It's very annoying and you end up having to do it over. You see how all the water just
fell onto the paint? The first step that he's using is the fast wax that goes on there.
You see how when he waxes the car he's not going just a straight line, he's doing straight
circles, overlapping the circles. So one circle touches the other one, this way it doesn't
form any straight lines. As you're wiping it down, you won't have any streaks or any
lines going through the wax.
Everything is done with very small circles, overlaying themselves. We even wax, with Presta
products...you could wax right over the chrome. Most wax products today, you wax right over
the chrome, right over the headlight. We even actually clay bar the headlights as well.
Then when you're done waxing it, we use a microfiber cloth. You see how he just pulled
the tag off the microfiber? It's good to do that because the tag and any debris that was
on a dirty one, can scratch the car. And it could give it the appearance of spider scratches
and things like that on the paint.
Especially on the darker color or black color car, that's where you're really going to notice
any imperfections. The microfiber cloth that he's using is actually one of the better ones
on the market. If it's a silver car, you don't actually have to use one of the better ones
out there. But any dark color car that you have, you want to make sure you don't cheap
out on the microfiber. When you buy one of those clothes that wipe the wax off, you make
sure that it's a very good cloth.
Any tips that we could give you...if you're looking right now, you see how he's getting
into the emblems and everything because that's where you're going to start to find dried
up wax that gets stuck in the emblem. It gets stuck in all the crevices like the body lines
and things like that. He's using a brush that we buy but you can use a toothbrush for that,
a soft bristle. I wouldn't use a medium hard but like a nice soft bristle toothbrush will
be fine. Which is you see the size of the headlights, you got lines that go there, you
want to make sure that you get into all the edges, all the crevices.
Because what will end up happening, if you don't get into edges, crevices, headlights
and all the little cracks in the car...what will happen two days later, after you just
spent all that, or really probably even the next day or hours later. You'll be looking
at the car and then suddenly you will see all dried up wax coming out of those little
crevices. A couple of other tips we could give you is basically...And this is, we're
not a wax shop, we don't sell wax from our...we're an auto body shop, we also do detailing as
well.
A couple of tips that I could give you is first off, make sure your products are clean.
Do not let them if they fall on the floor, thoroughly clean your product because it will
scratch the paint very easily if you have any...if you're rag falls onto the street,
just grab them off the street and it will pick up rocks. It will scratch right through
your paint or right through your wheels. Once you scratch it, it will be hard to get that
out. You probably won't be able to get that out after you paint it.
As far as the products you use, read the directions on them. I don't think...There's a lot of
good products on the market. Mother makes good products, we use Presta here only because
we're an environmentally safe shop and that's very important to us here. As far as we're
concerned, it's the best product on the market as well. But there are a lot of good products
on the market. It's really just doing it step by step, it's the little things that nobody
else does that make the job right.
Presta, we're actually able to wash the car, wax the car and everything in sun or light.
It doesn't matter what Presta products but most products will. So be careful with the
products you're using, you might have to do the car in the shade or indoors. Most products
you can't do in direct sunlight. Any products that you're going to use in the car, I mean
if you're going to use an air blower, which we do recommend...make sure that the air blower
itself has a rubber tip on it.
You don't want to have metal blower by a car that could sit there and very easy to slip
and hit the car with a metal tip. If you want any other advice on waxing the car, just call
