On January 21, 2010, the Campus Planning and Outreach in the Center for Diversity and Enrichment
held the Community of Color event.
Once a semester for the past five years,
students in various organizations come together to meet new people, get involved, and celebrate diversity.
The event involves live entertainment, plenty of food, and this semester,
guest speaker The Rev. James M. Lawson, a professor at Vanderbilt University and teacher of nonviolence.
He worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
My name is Khirin Carter I am a third-year graduate student in the Department of Sociology.
This is a Community of Color event, so at the beginning of each semester,
various organizations on campus come out and host an event
to get people aware and get involved in different organizations.
With the live music from local jazz musician Kevin B.F. Burt,
the many door prizes that were given out,
and the variety of people and organizations in attendance,
the students had much to celebrate coming together with their community.
It's just a way to get to know other people like yourself that you might not have class with.
