>>Theresa Bierer: A program that is gaining popularity in Northern Arizona University's
Extended Campuses is BBA or the Bachelor of Business Administration. Inside NAU's Ananda
Robie has the story
>>Ananda Robie: Steve Roussas teaches the NAU's supply chain management class on the
campus of Chandler/Gilbert Community College. Leo Castro is a junior who takes night classes
as well as classes online through NAU's Extended Campuses. He says while there are challenges
balancing both a full time job and full class load, it should be worth the effort.
>>Leo Castro: I hope to continue with the career path that I am currently on and just
move up into management, that's why I chose the Business Management degree.
>>Robie: In classes like these Castro learns things he immediately applies to his job,
lessons taught by long time business people like Rouses. His decades of business experience
help him effectively convey business concepts. >>Steve Roussas: You talk about this theory,
and then say let me tell you about this experience I had in relationship to this theory and you
can tell immediately, they might be doing something else and immediately their focus
comes in and they listen to you. So it kind of gives you that validation that this works
>>Robie: In addition to covering relevant topics many of the subjects covered here in
the BBA program have immediate applications for students
>>Bobbie Crouse: A number of our projects allow them to integrate what they're doing
at work to what's happening in the classroom and I think that's such an important model
for making the education relevant and important to what you're doing.
>>Robie: There are many benefits to students like these when community colleges partner
with Northern Arizona University. They earn their baccalaureate degrees close to home
from successful business people. Adjunct faculty member Aram Chavez was recently highlighted
in the Phoenix Business Journal, talking about the economic climate.
>>Aram Chavez: In this economy, where jobs are hard to come by, small businesses are
where the jobs are being created and so I think stressing not only global but entrepreneurship
and supporting of that is key for the next generation
>>Robie: Northern Arizona University Extended Campuses hire successful business faculty
so they can share with students valuable lessons on the evolving business world. For Inside
NAU I am Ananda Robie.
