My name is Peter Hendy. I'm the Commissioner of Transport...
and I've worked for London Transport and TfL for 38 years.
The bus service is an essential part of London it carries over 6 million people a day.
"Thank you"
We've revolutionised its quality, the volume of buses, the extent of the service,...
all night, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 364 days a year.
Challenges for me are that people are expecting the quality of our services to rise year after year.
We are trying to be more efficient. We are trying to reduce costs and we are trying to deliver what London and Londoners want.
What makes me proud of work?
Well I think serving London is a great privilege and actually with out us London doesn't function properly.
People can't get to work, they can't go to school, they can't get to hospital, they can't go out and enjoy them selves.
So what we do is clearly very important.
I can think of interesting places I've been on a bus.
I've been inside Buckingham Palace on a bus.
I've got an old Routemaster, as you might have if you do this job.
I've had the Prince of Wales on it and I've had the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall on it.
I've had the Prime Minister on it, that's all good stuff isn't it?
But I think that a red bus with the correct number and lettering of the destinations and so on is just a part of London.
There's no photograph of London without a picture of a red bus in it and I think these new buses are just a demonstration of 21st Century.
It is bound to continue it is the only method of transport that covers everywhere in London and it is here to stay.
