OK, so as you can see here, we've trimmed the bottom of our two part vase. We've trimmed
the top part so that's ready to fit on there. And what we have to do now, is attach the
two together. If we simply try to stick it on there like that, it would stick for now,
but as soon as it dried up, it would break off. So what we do to stick things together
in ceramics is a method called slipping and scoring. Now scoring is fairly self explanatory.
It's simply scoring the clay. But you want to make a good score. You want it nice and
scored, and you want to cross hatch. And make sure you have a nice, rough surface. Now slipping,
is a process of gluing the two pieces together. And it's important to have a good consistency
to your slip, and a well made slip. And to make slip, you simply take some old clay,
here I have some old trimmings. And put them in a bowl and add some water. And then I'm
going to take a fork and simply mash this clay up into the water. OK. Now sometimes
the clay is a bit hard. But you simply let it sit in the water until the clay soaks up
all the water and you mash it together with a fork. And eventually what you come up with
is a substance that looks like this. Now, if you need a lot of slip, you might want
to make up a big bucket of this and just keep it covered and have it ready to go. But that's
basically the consistency you want. Like chocolate pudding. OK, so now I've shown you how to
mix up a good slip to attach your two pieces together. The next thing we're going to do
is actually attach the two pieces of our two part vase together. And I'm going to show
you how to do that next.
