Selections from the words of al-Imam 'Abdul Qadir bin Ahmad as-Saqqaf
Topic: The Right of the Beloved, peace and blessings be upon him, upon us
As for his right upon us, upon him be salutations and peace... One should consider this:
How would we have known "Laa ilaaha illaLlaah" (There is no god except Allah) if were it not for Muhammad?
Were it not for Muhammad, we would not have been guided.
Were it not for Muhammad, we would not perform the Prayer.
Were it not for Muhammad, we would not give obligatory charity.
Were it not for Muhammad, tongues would not recite the Qur'an.
Were it not for Muhammad, the Qur'an would not have come.
Were it not for Muhammad, blessings would not have been so profuse upon us.
All of that is by means of him, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
So is it right - if it all this is by means of him - for the great intermediary to be forgotten?
No!
If someone does good to us, and we have a relationship or bond of love between us, we would say: "That's my friend. I won't neglect him. I won't lose my connection with him."
This Beloved, peace and blessings be upon him, has more right not to be neglected by us.
He has more right upon us to have his way of life preserved, may peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
Understanding this, does one deem it heavy to remember Muhammad by invocations of blessings upon him?
when in fact he would be ennobling himself, not Muhammad!
Muhammad was already honoured by his Lord.
He does not need ennoblement from anyone after his Lord said to him: {Lo! Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet}
Is he in need of a disobedient tongue to invoke blessings upon him?
Is he in need of a heedless tongue to invoke blessings upon him?
Is he in need of invocations by one who lies, attempting to get closer to him?
The Prophet is not in need of anyone at all. People are in need.
So what then of a Muslim who is need of Muhammad, yet forgets him?
