Hola! Buenos Dias! David Avrin, the Visibility Coach. I’m actually here in Buenos Aires,
Argentina. Seriously! We’ve spent the entire week, my lovely wife and I, at a couple of
presentations this week to some amazing organizations of company CEOs. And all week long I’m thinking
to myself....ehhh, I’ve got to do one of these videos. I can’t miss this opportunity,
some amazing surroundings, experiences, beginning I think first with the translation, because
I don’t speak Spanish. And half the audience had headsets, and there were people in the
back in these booths doing the translations. So I thought I’d do a great video about:
are you speaking the language of your audience. Are you being too technical, or do you understand
the words that they’re speaking? And we were walking through a hotel and we came upon
this cigarette machine. And I was thinking, how long has it been, since we’ve seen a
cigarette machine in the United States. And maybe I was going to do a last-minute video
about things being out of place, maybe something unexpected, to be able to be noticed. And
then of course, I’m looking in the mirror, and my beard is getting longer and longer
every day, and the razor that I packed to keep it trimmed down isn’t really compatible
[makes buzzing sound] it goes too fast and so I can’t trim my beard and then maybe
I thought, we’ll do a little video about compatibility, and are you...do you fit the
needs of your people. And then my wife and I went on one of these tours and it was wonderful,
we saw all around the city here in Buenos Aires, the old city and the Pink House, and
learned about Eva Peron, and it just went on and on and on and I’m thinking, when
are we going to get back to the hotel? And then I thought maybe I could do a nice message
about what are they remembering about the experience that they’re having with your
business. And we saw some amazing things, learned things, but I think my biggest memory
is gonna be just that the darn thing went on so darn long. And then I think the last
thing was, as we were looking around the city, amazing architecture. It’s a massive city,
15 million people. It has wonderful old buildings but virtually every surface in this city is
marred by graffiti. And I thought I could do a video and really a strong message about
are they able to see the beauty and the quality of the goods and services you provide. Or
are they being distracted by the surface? And then at the end of the day, as I’m sitting
here in this beautiful cafe, my last afternoon here in Buenos Aires, I realize the lessons
are all around us. And the lessons are all around you and your business as well. Are
you taking the time to notice, or do you have the blinders on? Are you so fixated on delivering
quality within our organizations which is very very important. Or are we opening up
those blinders to recognize the things which might distract our customers...the opportunities
we have to promote, or the deficiencies potentially of our competitors. It’s important to focus
on quality but its important also to open the blinders and be well aware of everything.
Sort of my take-away. David Avrin, enjoying my time in Buenos Aires with my lovely wife
which everybody always says I never get to see your wife. So here’s my beautiful wife,
there she is, the lovely Debbie. Having a great time, heading home, heading to the airport
later this afternoon. David Avrin, The Visibility Coach reminding you it’s not who you know,
it’s who knows you.
