Hi guys! Here we are for a new video-test!
Today we're going to take a look a the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III
Both the Les Paul or Epiphone are no rookies in the business
and as you can see here we have a guitar that looks and feels exactly as a Les Paul should.
This particular model features Epiphone Pro-Bucker Pickups
Pro-Bucker 2 in neck position and Pro-Bucker 3 in bridge position.
Even if it comes with the Les Paul name on the headstock, the Ultra III has a lot of new features
that have been introduced to enhance the versatility of such a traditional model.
The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III features 3 different outputs...
The first one it's the standard jack output, for a classic Les Paul sound...
The second one it's the NanoMag output...
The NanoMag is a pickup that have been installed at the end of the neck
because of the chambered body of this particular model
to capture the acoustic sound of the guitar, exactly as a Piezo pickup would do.
The NanoMag pickup features a three-way EQ on the back of the body
that allows to tweak highs, mids and gain.
Now we're going to play with both the humbuckers and the NanoMag pickup engaged.
Now lets hear only the NanoMag sound...
The third output it's a USB connection
that allows you to connect you guitar to a PC or a Mac
without using any kind of external audio device
so that you'll be able to connect your guitar and play through your favorite software.
The two outputs, standard and NanoMag
are switchable by a push-push *** featured on the
that allows to switch between the two separated outputs or the two outputs together.
The two outputs can be used to blend two different kind of amp
a standard amplifier for the common jack output
and maybe an acoustic one for the NanoMag output or, if you prefer, straight through the mixer
That's good to create an even richer sound, but, most importantly, to play in stereo mode.
If you connect your cable to the standard output, you'll be playing in mono-mode
but if you connect both the outputs it automatically switches to stereo-mode.
As you can imagine, with that kind of features the LP Ultra III offers many sound solutions.
One of them is to use a volume pedal on one of the two outputs...
in our case it's connected to the standard jack one...
Lets listen to what we can do with it...
We need to remember that the LP Ultra III features also an USB connection
that we can use to play through our favorite software (AmpliTube, Guitar Rig, Garage Band, etc...)
and then record our music of try new kind of sounds.
If you are the kind of guitar player that does a lot recording sessions
the USB connection may be a cool solution when it comes to re-amping techniques
or if you need an isolated and digitally controlled guitar track.
Another interesting feature of the LP Ultra III model it's a built-in tuner
slotted in the bridge pickup's cover
so that we can always check if our guitar it's perfectly in tune.
The built in tuner it's really easy to use
you can turn it on by pushing a little button on the side of the pickup's cover
and then you're ready to tune your guitar.
Next to the tuner, also on the side of the pickup's cover
there's an indicator that shows what kind of pickups we are playing through
NanoMag, standard output or maybe both
Associated letters and a red/blue light will indicate the selected pickup configuration.
I think we have covered basically every aspect of this Epiphone LP Ultra III
definitely a very versatile instrument
that offers a lot of different solutions for a studio session, a live gig or a home recording session...
As always, in the description below the youtube player
you will find the link to the specifications of the LP Ultra III
so that you can try to take a closer look at such an interesting instrument.
If you have ever tried this guitar model, or you own one
you're invited to tell us your opinions, maybe posting some samples or even a video.
It would be great to hear some of the sounds you're able to reach with USB connection
through your favorite amp/effects simulation software.
We're always happy to hear some of the sounds you've been working on.
That's all folks, see you on the next video-test!
