So a few of the things to remember while grinding flat bars or rails, is to remember that it's
pretty dangerous stuff. A lot of unexpected falls can happen from grinding rails. What
this has to do with, is the fact that it's such a precise landing that's needed, and
such a precise grind that it's really easy for your feet to fly out, and for you to end
up with your stomach on the rail, or maybe even legs on both sides of the rail, which
you definitely don't want to have happen. So one thing to watch out for is that sometimes
when you skate ledges, you end up getting wax build-up on your trucks. If you don't
pay attention and you've got wax on your trucks, when you end up grinding the rail, the metal
on metal is going to be much faster than metal on concrete, and add to the fact that you
have wax on there, it's going to be really way to fast. So you want to make sure that
there's no wax involved. This will definitely help you. One thing you can do is maybe put
your truck on the ledge and grind off the wax before grinding a rail. The other thing
to remember is just to skate within your ability, and don't get too crazy right away on the
rail. Take it slow and test little grinds, and just don't grind that far and commit to
standing straight up on the grind. Make sure at first you're kind of to the side and you
end up coming off. The more you practice the better off you'll be, and you'll be able to
slowly work your way into doing long and stead grinds on flat bars.
