Hi my name is Michael and today we are going to pair wine with some Japanese Kit Kats
So I picked a grape variety that generally works well with chocolate
This is a german grape variety named DORNFELDER
It grows as well as in Germany, the US, Canada and Hokkaido here in Japan.
It is from Mosel, and only 2% of the wine made in mosel is red, so this is a very rare treat.
It comes in two different styles, dry and sweet. Today we have the sweet one.
I think we should taste the wine, we have a clean glass here.
It has a screwcap; it’s very nice like that. Here we go!
A young little baby over here
Let’s give it a taste
Young cherry, bright acidic raspberries, and light cocoa powder
Almost like milk chocolate.
Which I think is going to work really well with what we are going to do today.
It’s not big, it’s quite light.
It’s a nice wine, it’s very delicate, it’s very drinkable and I like it a lot.
Al right, let’s put the wine to the side and bring in the Kit Kats.
First up…
I believe it’s raspberry Kit Kats. Pink beautiful color. Let’s get in to it!
So Japan loves packaging, they pack with as much plastic and stuff as they can and I don’t like that.
Go green! Am I right?
I can already smell it as I opened it.
Raspberry Kit kat here we go.
So sweet and acidic. I didn’t think it was going to be that acidic.
That’s AMAZING!
WOW! It highlightens the raspberries and takes away the acidity
This chocolate is so acidic, I did not expect that!
And you are left with this good beautiful raspberry flavors.
Do we have a match? YES!
Good. Good..good..good! Mosel, Dornfelder.
My wife is laughing right now because when I practice german regions.
It sounds like I am doing a Demonic Ritual.
Hessische Bergstraße *Demonic Ritual*
Mittelrhein *Demonic Ritual*
Mosel *Demonic Ritual*
Rheingau *Demonic Ritual*
Rheinhessen *Demonic Ritual*
Württemberg *Demonic Ritual*
Ok, let’s continue with the next Kit Kat.
It is a Rum and Raisin Kit Kat.
uUUuUuUuh… It’s white chocolate.
I can definitely smell the raisins.
And the rum… wow.. they are spot on the flavors.
Here we go.
The raisins are there, a lot of white chocolate tho!
And that rum flavor… this is really good, I like this!
To be honest I like this better than the other one.
Do you know what this tastes like?
It tastes just like Christmas cake. You know? Like fruit cake?
So this Kit Kat is sweeter than the other one, for sure.
It wasn’t wrong, it wasn’t bad or anything.
It is just like…
When you pair sweets up against each other… you kind of have to have a sweeter wine.
The desert or the chocolate or whatever you pair it with, will overpower the wine.
So the wine will be like… *waving hands*
It is a average food pairing. It is just OK, it is not changing my life.
OK…!!
That means we have one left.
The Wasabi Kit Kat.
Al right, Japan you have done it again.
I am expecting spices here.
It’s green, who’d knew?
Let’s try the Kit Kat first.
3-2-1 *count down*
So the flavor is there but it is not spicy!
But you do get that wasabi flavor.
I do not hate it, I do not hate it at all. In fact I like wasabi.
So let’s try it with the wine. *chuckles*
…I am not too sure about this one.
Al right let’s go!
no…no…no… No!
This aftertaste I am getting *disgust* …maaaan!
It’s not good, not good at all.
Vegetable, kind of green aftertaste that is not pleasant at all
Everything gets neutral tho. They are on the same kind of level of sweetness.
Which is all right. But you are left with that vegetal flavor.
I thought it was going to be spicy tho… too bad…
Ok, let’s do a recap! Let’s do a recap.
We got one that was hella good. Hella good.
The raspberry one, oh! It was so nice.
Really liked that one.
And then we had a mediocre one that was like: “Meeeeh! So-so.”
And finally we had the Wasabi one that wasn’t good at all.
Did not enjoy that, but all the Kit Kats alone were very interesting.
Yeah, I really recommend doing this. This is fun!
Have you done this? Have you tasted any Kit Kats?
Let me know in the comments below what kind of flavors you have tried.
I want to try another bottle and different kinds of flavors.
This was fun, I am having a good time over here.
I hope you like my video, if you do there are a bunch of other videos you can check out.
I have new wine video every Sunday!
So until then, see you in another video, kanpai!
