Trafic Québec calling CCGS Cap Tourmente.
This is CCGS Cap Tourmente. Go ahead Trafic Québec.
We have received information that the Aviso II
currently has engine failure in the area of the Beauport flats
and is requesting help. Over.
Trafic Québec we are proceeding in the direction of the Aviso II
and will be in the area in approximately ten minutes.
I received a call from the rescue centre
advising me that the Aviso II was in the Beauport flats sector,
and had engine failure.
We then proceeded immediately to the area.
When we arrived at the location,
we boarded the boat to secure it,
evacuated the people on board, and then towed it to the closest marina.
Our first thought is to save lives,
after which we decide how we are going to go about it.
If it is a small towage as we had this morning it is easy
but when someone is injured it is trickier.
We deal with about 100 cases and more a year,
and even for the 500th case, it is the same adrenalin rush when the phone rings.
What fascinates me the most is the challenge,
the adrenalin rush,
and being part of a team, because search and rescue work is teamwork.
Each element in search and rescue is designed to ensure the success of the mission.
