We're here today at the FCC community gardento talk with Annette and David
about hydroponic system will be installing through our hydro2table
program
they're very excited to have this hydro system here and they're going to tell us
a little bit about how it's going to benefit the people here at this garden
and the surrounding community so let's take a look inside
I think this is important to the community because it
affords people who do not have space
to grow a place to go to grow and for
new gardeners to learn because we have seasoned and brand-new gardeners
We're very fortunate to have Faith Covenant allow us to grow here.
They originally started the garden with Dave. I'm an electrical contractor
about four years ago work really had a downturn and we laid off a bunch
of our employees
so I got interested in gardening again and I started this garden
and it was so fulfilling to have kids come out
and look at the plants and understand where the green beans came from
how seeds germinate and the kids were just
amazed that came out and volunteered
harvested plants and to me
that's been the most fulfilling. Annette: The other part of this garden is
from the onset the church had designated plots
that were for benevolent giving and so
this past year the FCC Community Garden was able to
plant harvest and deliver over 600 pounds of produce
and with the hydroponics this year we're hoping to be able to expand and we're
looking into
assisting an elderly group here in the city of Saint Petersburg by providing
monthly some fresh produce
and that's something that's in the works
for the 2013-14 season
I'm really excited about having hydroponics here
at our community garden. I've done hydroponics at
home for about four years and with a hydroponics system
we'll be able to teach the gardeners how to use
use one, how one can be set up at their home in a small area
and they can have fresh lettuce or herbs
and their fingertips any time they want.
Well that concludes our tour of the FCC Community Garden. I hope you enjoyed it
and stay tuned for more info about Hydro2Table.
