A group of demonstrators from a small town in Bolivia have clashed with police in protest
over the construction of a narcotics police base in their town.
Around 2,000 people in Yapacani took part, blocking a major highway, lighting fireworks
in protest, while the police threw tear gas into the crowd.
Officials say the town is a red zone for drug trafficking, but residents have called for
the 32 hectare property to be used as a fair ground instead.
There aren't any drug traffickers or even coca fields here. We only live off of milk
production and agriculture, and we don't want them to build the base.
There were no reports of serious injuries during the protest.
