My name is Tommy, and I work as a narrative designer
here at MachineGames.
It means that I work with story, story telling,
and writing, writing dialog, creating stories...
Finding a way to fuse both story and game play.
That's my job.
What we drew on for the story was this...
idea of creating an alternative history.
To think about what would happen if the Nazis won the war.
What would the world look like?
And the original Wolfenstein had a lot of science fiction elements in it.
So I think that's part of what we drew on.
My proudest moment would have to be
coming up with the Frau Engle character
because I think she's such a cool female villain
which is not that common in video games.
Also writing the train scene
because I think that's going to be one of those stand-out moments
which players will remember from the game.
My secret fear, um...
(reverb) The impending annihilation of the human race, perhaps?
(laughs)
Oh, I have a lot of favorites.
I have Kurt Vonnegut. "Slaughterhouse-Five"
is one of the best novels I've ever read.
Um, what else do I have?
Neil Gaiman. "American Gods."
That's some of them.
When I get writer's block I...
I just try to write even though it's just awful.
I just continue writing.
Oh yeah. Sure.
I think that's a good philosophy.
That nothing is sacred.
Even those things that you really care for.
If they don't work, kill it.
