from 8:30 to 9:30.
Cities across the world switched off their lights to mark this year's Earth Hour, an
event aimed at raising awareness of conservation.
Even London's Big Ben and Westminster Palace went dark for the cause, as well as iconic
buildings in Milan and Madrid.
At the entrance to Berlin's Brandenburg Gate people lit candles and lined them up on the
pavement. Earth Hour was launched in 2007 as a solo event in Sydney, Australia, with
more than two million people involved.
Organisers said they want to demonstrate what people can do to reduce their carbon footprint
and save energy, drawing attention to the problems of climate change.
