Hello!! This is the first babystep of FlyLady
how to keep (get) your house back in order.
First, Shine Your Sink!
I am sure many of you might have similar idea, dirty sink and dishes piling up. Let's take a look.
Really disgusting, isn't it? First, about those dishes...
If you have a dishwasher, let's put those dishes into dishwasher.
Some of you may not have a dishwasher. What you can do is get a dishpan or a big pot,
then put those dirty dishes in it and put them under your sink for now
so you can clean your sink. Then you can wash your dishes. Or you can do the dishes now to get it over with. It's up to you.
Right now, I will put those dirty dishes into dishwasher.
Now all the dirty dishes are in the dishwasher.
Now...what I will do is rinse the sink, just rinse.
Let's take a look.
Now I've rinsed the sink. You can still see dirty sink.
Now, if there is any food stuck in the sink, you can scrape it off.
Just make sure there is no food or anything in the sink. Don't scrub the sink yet.
Let's take a look how I scrape the food off. I am using this. Let's take a look.
I've scrape most of them off. Again, I'll rinse the sink.
OK, I've rinsed the sink. First, make sure you run HOT water because hot water will soften the dirt up.
Cold water wouldn't work very well. Use HOT water.
If you have double basin, do one side at a time.
Do not fill both sides at same time. Focus on one side. Then when you are done with it, focus on other side. I will show it to you.
Now plug the sink stainer. Then run the hot water. Let's take a look.
Ouch, hot water...Let it run. Next, what we need to do is add 1 cup of bleach. Any bleach you might have will be fine.
I use this.
One cup of bleach. Let's look.
Hot water is still running. I'm going to pour this one cup of bleach into hot water. Let's look.
I'm going to let it fill up to the rim. Once the water has reached the rim, I will turn it off. Then leave it alone for an hour.
In a few moments, it will reach the rim.
When the water starts to overflow into other side, I turn it off. Now I am going to leave it alone for an hour.
I'm going to the food store to do some grocery shopping. By the time I get back, the sink will be ready for me to do some cleaning.
Then I will do the other side. I will see you later! Bye-bye!
Hello! It has been little more than an hour. I've done my grocery shopping and now I am back.
Now what is next? Hot water is still filled to the rim. I need to pull the stainer to drain the water.
After draining, I need to rinse the sink. Be sure you rinse the sink very well.
Then I will show you the next cleaning step. Ok? Let's go take a look.
You might need to use gloves. If you don't have one, you could use tongs. It doesn't matter. Let's look.
Now you've seen me rinsed the sink. Next, you can use any of these: Comet, Ajax, or baking soda. Sprinkle in the sink.
What I have is Comet which I will use. Make sure you rinse the sink very well.
Oh! Before I go any further, for those who have stainless steel sink.
After you rinse the bleach off, use SOS to polish up. Cast iron sinks (white) do not need SOS. Those are different.
Those with stainless steel, after scrubbing with sos, use any of those mentioned cleanser. I'll show it to you.
Now I've put some cleanser in the sink. I'm going to use sponge and scrub the sink well.
Here is the sponge. Wanna watch?
After you scrub the sink, don't forget to clean in the hole and the edges. Rinse well. Let's look.
Now you can see a clean sink! Sometimes you might see food and dirt getting stuck in the edge.
You could use some kind of sharp object, like nail file as you would use for under your nails, to clean around the edges.
Or you could use the scrapper like I showed it to you. Or you could even use spinning brush to clean around the edge.
I've used it before and I broke it! Oops. You can find different ways to clean the edges.
Now that side is done, already rinsed. Now I am going to do other side,
using same steps. Fill hot water to the rim, leave it with one cup of bleach for an hour,
drain it, rinse well, use cleanser like Comet or whatever you have,
scrub well, then I will show you what to do next. The final step! Bye!
Hello! I've done the other side. Wanna see what it looks like?
I've drained it, scrubbed it and rinsed it. Let's see it.
See it? It looks much better now! Now the final step...
Before you do that final step, make sure the sink is completely rinsed.
Reason for it is you don't want any cleanser like Comet to be mixed with Windex.
Windex is something you would use for glass or mirror. You can use that in sink to give it a shine!
Mixing cleanser and Windex can cause bad fumes.
So be sure to completely rinse the sink before using Windex in the sink. I'll show it to you now.
See this? Now let's do it.
After you spray Windex in the sink, you could use paper towel to wipe it off.
Or you could use a clean white towel. It doesn't matter. Same idea as this. You can wipe with this towel.
For now, I'll use paper towel. Come.
Now, the sink is even more shiny. I am not sure if you can see it clearly through webcam. Let's see...come and take a look.
Doesn't it look better? That's how you shine your sink!
From now on, when you use the sink, be sure to dry the sink after each use. Take out your towel and quickly dry it.
Every night before you go to bed, throw the towel in washer and take out a clean towel for next day.
That is so cool as it would stay clean and shiny every day!
Hope you enjoy this video. Bye!
