Hey Junkies. Im Giridhar
and I'm Yash. We are the MedJunkies. Did you know that
Tb had a part to play in the battle between Leonidas and Xerxes?
Not only that, it has a much longer history
ya its history can be traced back to the Egyptian era
Did you know there are mummies that have been found that got infected with
tuberculosis
it was so widespread that its mentioned even in religious texts
like the Vedas. The SUSHRUTA SAMHITA** recommends the following(treatment for tuberculosis):
consume alcohol. dwell in the mountains
eat meat
drink breast milk.... you've got to be kidding me bro
no i've researched about it
YA but I wonder how they would meet the demand
anyways its mention even in the Old Testament
it says if you stray from the path of God, you will get the consumptive
disease
that is Tb. ..... wait a minute we forgot about Leonidas
and his brave 300.... I thought we were trying to get more views
nah it did happen in the Battle of Thermopylae
many generals of the Xerxes army fled away
fearing they would catch tuberculosis
but I know a fact which is even more awesome. Do you know that it was once
called the romantic disease
but it wasn't that romantic actually
It was called so because it was the best way to die as the disease progresses slowly
so they could bid farewell to their loved ones and die peacefully
Awesome, I have another fact from the same era.
In medieval Europe, people believed that the King
could heal them from tuberculosis by just touching them. This was called
The Royal touch. It was a sign of legitimacy of the King
King Charles 2 performed 92 thousand touches
but people started to disbelieve in this ritual when the King's mistress
herself procured Tuberculosis. Voltairre
scornfully wrote that he had lost confidence in the touch
upon hearing that the mistress of Louis 14 died
of Tb..
The cause of Tb was a mystery
until recently. Hipocrites, the father of medicine
thought that it was inheritable. Aristotle proved himm wrong
but was not able to know the cause and then
Robert Koch came to the rescue on March 24 1882.
He gave his famous speech on this day to prove without a doubt
that tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis
this is why the world Tb day is observed on 24th March
So Junkies now let's look at the symptoms of tuberculosis
if you have TB you would have low appetite,
productive cough (the most important one),
weakness, night sweats and GIT symptoms. The other
uncommon symptoms are on your screen.
So how this tuberculosis spread?... it's through the respiratory
track via infected droplets. If left, a person with TB
can infect up to 10 to 15 people in a year but how bad is this disease yash....
I'd like the map to speak for itself. A person is infected with tuberculosis
every second and a person dies of tuberculosis
every 20 seconds. By the time you finish watching this video,
ten people would have died of tuberculosis. That's how serious a problem
this is.
but thankfully this problem
is not without a solution.whan a child is vaccinated
with BCG vaccine. It drastically reduces the chances of the
being infected
side note: don't listen to Jenny Mccarthy.
if you do however contract this disease then there's nothing to worry about it.
there are programs such as DOTS that can ensure
to cure you... So how screwed are you
if you have tuberculosis? Lets check the screwdometer!
which means
that with proper treatment you can be completely cured of the disease.
