But I did a lot of work in radio. I was writing radio plays, just to stay alive, for the DuPont
Company and U.S. Steel and other such folks. They had weekly radio programs. And I dramatized
historical stuff for the Cavalcade of America, which some people might vaguely remember.
(CUT) Well it was good discipline. You had 29 minutes, and that was it. So you tell the
story of the United States relations with Mexico in 29 minutes, with, I think, one or
two interruptions of half a minute, and make it make any sense. That teaches you a thing
or two about discipline. Of course we were helped along by a forty piece orchestra to
toodle away between the scenes for about ten seconds or twenty seconds.
