Hi, my name's Peta from Immigration, can I have your passport please?
Thank you, how are you going today?
Good, thanks.
That's good. How are you? Pretty good thank you.
I do love my job at DIAC.
Each day I come to work, it's something different.
You never know what the day's going to bring.
My role here at the Cairns airport is to monitor our passengers travelling into and out
of Australia on a day-to-day basis.
When I started with the department, I started in the graduate program.
I got to work on a lot of different areas of the department.
I worked in client services, citizenship, I worked for a little while in the visa
processing centre for the second working holiday maker visa.
Now I'm out at the airport as an airport inspector.
I've enjoyed the different experiences working in the different areas.
I found the graduate program to be very rewarding and offered a lot of opportunities to
enhance my skills and knowledge base.
We were able to travel down to Canberra and undertake training throughout the year.
I think it's important to have indigenous people on the front line, as it...
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people play an important part in Australia's
cultural identity.
I love my career at DIAC.
It's very rewarding.
It's fun and I plan on being here for a very long time.
