Mt. Aso is an active volcano group in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, and famous for its large caldera structure.
Nakadate, which is a volcano composed of Mt. Aso, has been being volcanically active until now.
However, tourist can approach right up to the crater because this volcanically active develops a periodical pattern and the eructation prediction is easy.
Mt. Aso Ropeway is a unique aerial tramway over an active volcano.
The aerial tramway connects the length of 858 meters and the vertical interval of 108 meters between Asosan Nishi (Mt. Aso West) and Kako Nishi (Crater West) in about 4 minutes at 15-minute intervals.
However, the line sometimes suspends suddenly because of increase in volcanic gas concentration. So tourists can know whether they can board until they go there on the day.
Since the volcanic activity calmed down on this day, I could board the aerial tramway luckily.
However, I couldn't enjoy the savage mountain scenery because of bad weather.
Asosan Nishi station is a complexed tourism building in Mt. Aso.
There are aerial tramway station, souvenir shops and restaurant in the building.
There are free parking, bus stops connecting Kyushu cities, Aso-sanjo Shrine, and Saiganden Temple around the building.
