on right now Tim carpenter is with us that this is the in Courage one-sided
but
Tim governors well as the national director for progressive Democrats
America PD America .org
HM welcome the program Tom thanks again thanks for being here with a special
opportunity
yeah it's it's great to have you sold I if you're in town
PDA must be doing something what's going on I'd like to believe so arm
last week as you know this is our 7th month and thank you again for having us
on we were in 237
he rushed officers delivering our letters on you for this before
single-payer
robin hood in the jobs bill yeah and today we came back to washington a week
later and said what's up
and six months ago you when we walk you said we're remembers a congress never
non
I can report today the coach R the pressure carcass heat Ellison was with a
stop to it we're going on the Robin attacks
it's great like Apple 10 who we got to re up on single-payer this morning is
back on board
was 676 then our good friend Jim McGovern's we had quite a day to day
two hours a meeting with members of congress activists from roundabout way
to talk about how we can continue to charter progressive course
in a sea of Washington madness yeah and and
what how do we continue charter progressive course to
tonight we're doing every month put our shoulders to the plate and how do the
work
in our districts a reminder members of congress while some they want to give up
on
Obamacare and others when I got it that we can continue the fight for
single-payer healthcare
California at the state level here at the national level by pushing on this
legislation or working on
Robin Hood Tax on how we do it is organizing our communities and money are
members of congress know that we're here
impressionistic by commercial district we began this campaign which we college
can congress
we 150 offices and I said class when sichuan 37 that number continues to grow
up
people want to be a part of this movement and the and the movement can be
found at PD America .org
it is nonprofit it's non-partisan your you doing inside outside strategy with
the with a guard democrats believe we know very much
inside the democratic party when you talk about on par some but not the
democrats as we know them
our belief is that Intel we elect a truly progressive majority
can we move congress and we have to do that both inside and outside congress at
that means working with
whether it be as a in some cases the Green Party or
aren't there yet teabaggers are now the question of constitutional limits on
corporations
and we build those partnerships or we can our goal at the end of the day
is to make sure their majority people in washington they're voting like you tell
us in a row overall the and Jim McGovern
to bring about liberal progressive a majority in congress
yeah abs absolutely and and I'm
when people go to president Great America website PD America .org
arm is it possible for them to set up a local chapter themselves can people
watching or listening right now say you know hate this sounds really cool
I would like to be the center you know one of these things start obviously
because of our relation with Tom Arban and how much you've taught us to become
your own media
for the first time today in washington as part of our roundtable
we did a live stream so for two hours people who could not get to washington
were part of it so for us as PDA his circle breakthrough and yes absolutely
the goal PDA's to bring this work to your neighborhoods
whether the meeting in small neighborhoods at labor halls whether it
be your school's
or getting on the phone virtually the issues we organize around people can get
on the phone
and most poorly know they're not alone so today we webcast if people have a
chance to see if they can go to the website in
for over two hours see the members of congress Pokemon the oculus
came to washington be a part in this and to take this work in your neighborhood
and go to your member of Congress on August 21st an *** and reported this
growing movement
spectacular what are the you talked with the Rob Nutek what are the specific
issues that you think are front and center
and and I'm I'm curious biad I'm guessing because you're so busy day you
didn't catch Obama speech
present about did not okay alright are but what are the issues that you think
are the
the number 12 34 what are the top priorities
offer progressive Democrats America just because the environment where we find
ourselves with the Supreme Court gutting
voting rights right now that's need to say right at the top of the agenda
are to ensure that we have a voting rights constitutional amendment just
like we need an amendment to overturn Citizens United
to get the corporations and special interest money out of congress so we can
level the playing field
so folks like you and I can be an arms purchase meant that year
ability so work in these arenas are measured by how much money you can bring
to the table
but whether the strength of your ideas and your believe organized so the
fundamental right now is some level the playing field
get a special interest money out our voices can be heard and make sure that
our votes are counted so those are two things
meet with under attack but for PDA as progressive Democrats
is very fundamental things last ones were fighting for the simple right
for people have food to eat the food stamp program yeah food should be a
human right people should have to fight
I to get are fed in this country and for us SPD is how we began
single-payer healthcare Medicare for All enhance medicare Fraud
health care as a human right for us within PDA repairman issue continues to
be
well we are stalled here in washington we understand that a meeting with
members of congress
it's no reason why progressive members a congress can step out
endorsed legislation and get us where we need to go while at the same time we
work at the state level
so those are the issues right now their paramount and as we're voting
as we leave today on the defense budget get that waz out of the pentagon get
back working her down
yeah healthcare not warfare was the signs the for that once or twice I have
seen how I did it
you guys are good at that I'd be a very good at messaging and President Kratz
America as an organization tells but there is a shin
tell us about the organization out you know it we work do you have a
jiang corporate headquarters here in washington gas so I don't alienate acre
air campus plan case you have 30,000 square feet on K street where we are
meeting on a regular basis
year virtual organization where grassroots group so we have no
nothing on K Street nothing on K street that was a little attempt at humor at
the late part in a sec
for virtual organization are actors work at other homes we come to washington
once a month to bring our message washer
Prince we were working on our homes like most folks other try to make a
difference
visiting the website can plug them into the community we have to web sites
one that generates more action alerts make sure members congress hear you
and then won the churches in education I'm gonna go there now in hear what the
president had to say today
okay and those two web sites are PT America dot org chart there
okay and that that will take it everything an actual take each our
community
website but started PT America down or yeah as in progressive Democrats
America and how are you better off we were formed in 2004
work getting ready to celebrate here move the inner 90-year
and growing as I said the best indicators rose from the round tables
when we began a round table 7 months ago we had a good number a progressive folks
but today
for new organizations want to be part of this growing coalition
so we are on on the upswing I and S
pessimistic as it may seem in the real world I we're very optimistic people
said wanna be a part of this movement
%uh the room was full so if you don't see the webstream are you can see the
people are anxious mother beat
fracking in your backyard whether it be getting the food stamp program Remsen
with your teeth
healthcare cutting Pentagon weighs people want to party somewhere proud to
be part of a larger person who refuse place
be small growing larger progressive movement as part of the social movement
as we set foot inside and outside that's great plays sc2
