Daylight savings time is about to end, and that means, among other things,
it is going to be cooler and more pleasant to be outside.
Our young news reporter, Amit Atias,
went out to hike with Green Horizons (Chugai Sayarut) of KKL-JNF, Jewish National Fund.
Hi Gideon, this time I want to take you outside, to nature.
There is no better way to do that than joining Green Horizons (Chugai Sayarut) of KKL-JNF.
Here they learn to understand nature and our country and to take care of our environment.
So let's go and meet them.
- Hello group 51 from Tivon. First of all, where are we?
- In the Carmel forest. - Where in the Carmel?
- Machtsevot Kedumim (the Ancient Quarries). - That’s right, Machtsevot Kedumim.
Here is a natural cliff that we are rappelling off of.
In Green Horizons (Chugai Sayarut) we want our participants to be able to go wherever they want,
but sometimes nature challenges us.
We want to be able to transport ourselves from place to place
without driving a jeep or using a helicopter.
- I joined because I love nature.
- Would you like to be an instructor here?
- Yes, I am going to be an instructor next year.
- Now you are about to rappel. Have you done this before?
- No
- Are you excited? Scared?
- Yes, I am actually afraid of heights, but I’ll manage.
- Green Horizons (Chugai Sayarut) gives me a lot!
We go to amazing places, and it also builds self-confidence.
- It’s simply the best place to express yourself.
My responsibilities include planning and organizing an outdoor activity every week
and a weekend hike once a month.
- And we are the ones who have to plan it!
Myself and the other instructor who works with me,
we practically live from one trip to another.
Every group takes part in an activity each week which takes place in nature, outdoors.
Once a month we go out on a hiking trip.
Two days hiking in the outdoors, sleeping in the wilderness under the stars.
We hike and cook our food by ourselves.
During the holidays we go on very long trips, 4 or 5 days long.
With water and food on our backs we wander our way from one night camp to another.
There’s no bus at the end of the day, no showers, nothing.
Only wilderness.
When night falls, all goes silent and the groups gather around their bonfires.
It’s still possible to join us,
we’re still at the beginning of the year and kids are joining our groups all the time.
