I chose Bolton because I knew that I wanted to work in Games..wanted to work in Games for a very long time.
I wasn't exactly sure where I would fit in to the industry, exactly which role I wanted to do.
The Game Design Course at Bolton teaches you a range of skills..
and then you have the opportunity later on to kind of specialise and build your portfolio around what you know you want to do
We have in the third year an entire module based on employability and based on the business of computer games..
so, we have things like guest speakers that come in and you can network with them, ask them questions about the industry.
We also work on our portfolio sites, we work on our CVs and interview techniques, things like that, so, you really do feel..
by the end of that module that you are ready to go out there and get a job and you know what's required of you to do that.
What's really useful about all the teamwork on the course is that that is exactly what we will be doing in industry.
We'll be working in teams all the time, so it's good experience for that and it also allows you to play to each other's strengths and weaknesses..
you build a balanced team and then it allows you to produce a rounded end product.
I'd have to say the tutors in the Games Design Department are absolutely fantastic.
They're really approachable, they know their stuff and they're as passionate about games as you are.
The Games Labs have got, actually, brand new Alienware Computers in at the moment which is..
a big plus. I mean, if you're rendering something near a deadline the last thing that you want is to be held up by the tech..
and miss that deadline and you just don't need to worry about that at all, you know it's not gonna let you down.
It's hard work, it's a lot of fun as well but it is hard work. You have to be prepared to spend more than a few late nights up at the computer..
but in return you get to be part of this fantastic community of people that are interested in all the things that you're interested in and it really is worth it in the end, I promise.
