Hi! I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you my opinions and techniques
on how to properly lead your house. If you have a horse that is a little bit hard to
handle or a little it excitable, one way that you can lead them to get a little better control
is to lead them with a chain line. So you are going to put your chain through the little
D-rings on the side of the nose band of the halter and you can pull it through and pull
it either over the nose or you can go under the chin. I personally prefer over the nose.
It is a little bit easier to handle. So we are going to put it across the nose and hook
it to the D ring of the other side of the nose band. We are going to pull it back through
the side so that it is a little bit tight. You can see by pulling on this that it applies
a little bit of pressure. So if she was getting a little excited or she got started or she
was tying to pull away from me, this applies a little more pressure to the nose so I have
a little bit more control. You always want to make sure when you are holding a line like
this, you are holding it not on the chain, a little bit below the chain. Because if they
were to startle or spook and pull away from me, the chain could end of really injuring
your hand or cutting you. You always want to hold it down here. But you can see this
just applies a little bit more pressure. If for some reason she got a little bit excited,
kind of check on it a little bit. It gives you just a little bit better control. If you
have a hors that is a little bit harder to handle, it is a really great alternative for
you to be able to have a little bit better control to spare yourself and your horse from
injury.
