I am ready for The Open. How about you?
Sunday.
For me Sunday is very simple.
Get your name etched into history, I think.
Every player has the dream to be able to go out there Sunday refreshed, ready, focused
on what they need to do to be able to...
get over that big hurdle.
You're only in control of your own golf ball.
You can't do anything about anybody else.
They are going to play their game.
You are going to play your game.
You just need to be very gutsy.
You need to be able to be very strong
and put yourself in the right position
to have a chance down that back nine on Sunday.
And that's where everything unfold.
You know Sunday, several years ago at Birkdale
I very slowly but surely managed to keep myself creeping up that board.
It was my chance to get in the club house,
post a number and to see what will unfold.
It's an amazing walk up 18 at The Open.
There is nothing else like it in golf.
And I remember saying to Terry, my caddie at the time
walking onto that green.
He was behind me and he has come up with beside me. And I said to him.
I said "Have you ever been on the putting green at your home golf course,
and said to yourself when you stand over your putt:
"This is for The Open, this is to win".
And he said "yeah yeah, a few times".
I said, "well, I have got it right here".
And at that time, I really felt posting that number,
was going to be good enough.
I love the crowd.
I love what Open Championship fans bring to golf.
They are very knowledgeable.
They really really love their golf.
They want you to do well.
They want a home boy to put their name on that jug.
It's been a while.
It obviously would be the highlight of my career if I was to win.
To put yourself in that elite group of players.
To become a major winner, is obviously a dream.
It would turn you from a good player into a great player
by holding that jug.
