Now before you learn any new scratches, it's important I go over the first four we learned
in the earlier series, so remember, we learned the first scratch, the baby scratch, just
the record hand moving it back and forth, always at the beginning of the sample. And
the chirp scratch, which is just the baby scratch but you articulate the beginning of
the sample and close the fader at the same time, then open it on the way back. This is
very difficult and challenging at first, but it is probably the most essential combination
that you're going to need to know. We also learned the release; remember, open and release,
close, rewind to the beginning.
And finally the stab scratch, which is just articulating the forward motion and the fader
is closed, open and go forward and close. Rewind, open and go forward, close. Remember
with all of these, I can't say enough that how good you are at it directly correlates
to the amount of time you put into it, so don't be afraid to practice all you want until
it sounds the way you need.
