As a team we played very well at times but we're still conceding silly goals.
We are going to work on defending compactness, sliding and screening and blocks.
As a team, when we lose possession we have an issue with getting compact.
If there are no spaces in between players and units, that will help us to be more solid and prevent the opposition from scoring goals.
First practice of the morning, simply as a warm up attacker on the ball, defender going to press, and working on that sideways position.
What we don't want is Darren like that: square.
Because I can then go either way of the player and it makes it easier for me to attack left or right side.
Go. Come on Lorenzo, good. Too much. Brakes on. You need to be on your toes, and balanced. That's great.
That arm length will help so that you don't dive in. Arms length. Good, are his legs too far apart?
Clever players will nutmeg and away they go. In quick, brakes on, good. This warm up,
was all about body positioning and now we're going to move on to work on the unit.
Each time the ball penetrates you it's a goal. Each time stop it, it's a goal to you. Why do we need to slide and screen?
To cover each other so they cant play through you. But also because you've gone out of shape.
You don't go and engage the ball, then allow for your team mates to get back into shape.
So sliding and screening and then at the right time, you press. Slide! Good 3-1 to the defenders. Good 4-1, 4-2, 4-3!
What did you do when they scored? You didn't react, you have to react, good. Even in training drills you can still work your hips.
What could Abou have done? He could have passed straight back. 6-6! Sometimes you're going in too quick,
you need to put the brakes on and your body shape needs to be right enable you to shift your body.
Remember the earlier session we did there about twisting your body left and right, so you can get yourself round.
