All right, check out this very sweet AV Scaler from Atlona.
Now, this is some pretty nice hardware. This is an HDMI scaler, that does AV, so it does
both audio and video. It can pretty much scale any image that you
might be inputing into any other resolution. Not only can it scale resolutions, it can scale
the type of video it is, if it's Pal, it can pretty much switch it to NTSC,
it can also do audio, it can split audio, it's very very powerful.
Let me give you a quick overview, see what it looks like.
So, pretty much it's just a nice aluminium box, very light.
On one side you have your output. So, pretty much, you have output on one side,
and you have input on the other. Now, what's going to happen here is your going
to be inputing your signal via either DVI, with an HDMI - DVI convertor, which you have to
purchase separately, or straight in with the HDMI.
So lets say your putting in here a 720p from your ComCast or direct TV Cable box,
your HD cable box. You can either input Toslink, if it has a Toslink
output, from the cable box to here, or if you have audio, just regular audio, it does come with a
mini 3.5 to RCA cable convertor. So pretty much you go from the right and left,
white and red, to the 3.5mm Mini Jack, and that will plug in right there.
Now, on top of that, is the power right here, and now, what's going to happen inside the box,
nowhere else, there's nothing else to do, no other hardware or software install, is pretty much,
it's going to scale to any resolution you want, and it's going to output it right here, on this
side of the box. Now, on this side of the box you're going to notice
the same thing. You have another audio output for the Mini Jack, you have your S/PDIF,
your Toslink right here and you have another HDMI out, and then you have all these menu buttons.
This is where you control everything that this thing can possibly do.
Now, it's very very powerful and it's used for multiple reasons, so lets say your direct TV
ComCast box is coming out of your television, it's coming out at 720p. Just because your TV
is showing a full screen doesn't mean it's actually doing that resolution. So if you want
to upscale it, to 1080p, you run it through this box, you set the input as 720p and then you
output it at 1080p. Now, lets say that you don't want that audio
to go through the HDMI cable to the TV, you want it to go to your reciever.
Well, you can do that as well, you can split the audio.
So you input the video and the audio from your cable box over here, and then you output the
HDMI video to your TV and you output the Toslink to your reciever or to your surround sound system.
Whatever you may have, so it's very powerful for that.
Now, beyond that it's a couple other things. Here is an example for business.
Let's say you have a 4 by 4 Matrix with 4 TVs and a display at your store, or what not,
and they're all running of of one source, so lets say you have a BluRay player playing for them,
but one of your TVs is 720p, so what do you do about that? Do you get a completely seperate
BluRay player just for that TV to do a difference? You don't. You do that 4 by 4 matrix, you're going
to be outputing 1080p resolution to this box, and then actually out to your matrix and
then from your matrix, going to all the other TVs that are 1080p. You're going to put this one
in between and scale it down to 720p. Now you have an accurate resolution going to that
monitor. So, again, this is very powerful hardware
from Atlona, it's great for businesses, it's great for professional displays.
Or you can use it at home for a lot of things, for your ComCast box,
your direct TV, satellite TV. What's the other one?
What's the other direct TV? Dish Network!
Dish network. You're going to use it for setting up your PCs through here.
Remember, anytime you can use an HDMI, you can also use a DVI to HDMI adaptor
so you can always turn this into a PC to TV kind of thing if you want to.
That will let you scale several different ways, you can also go from your cable box
to your PC, no problem. So lets say you want to use your PC as a television,
you won't be able to change the channel, the box is going to be doing that for you
with it's built in tuner, but you will be able to output it to your PC's monitor in it's
native resolution. So, very powerful hardware from Atlona. It's their HDMI audio/video scaler.
