My name is Lupe.
I’m Dr. Maria Davidson, everyone calls me Lupe
and I’m the faculty in residence for Couch residence hall.
I’m an African/African American Studies Assistant Professor.
And this is my son Kolya Davidson
this is my other son, Yannick Davidson, or our son
this is my husband Scott Davidson.
Scott is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Oklahoma City University
and this is our daughter Yelena Davidson
and we are the FIR family in Couch, the faculty in residence family.
We do mock tails like we’re doing tonight.
We’ve done the history of stepping;
we’ve done discussions with students on a variety of topics,
poetry readings. Anything that touches on different kinds of interests that students have.
And we’re just here, you know, to be a kind of a
bridge between the faculty and the students
and to just do programming that’s going to just add to their being on campus.
And we really, really love it. We love Couch we love our students
and it’s just such a privilege living here.
Yah, I think it helps with student retention
when students identify with the University and with faculty
and they feel a part of something
they’re more likely to come back for their sophomore and junior and senior years and
successfully graduate and that’s the goal for everybody here.
That’s Claire, Claire the Couch dog. She lives here too.
She’s the most popular member of the family.
Is she not?
We just love being FIRS. You guys want to say anything?
Do you like being a FIR kid? YEAH!
Do you like being a Couch kid? YEAH!
Do you like being a Couch kid? YEAH!
Do you like being a Couch dog? Yes, we all love it here. Thank you!
