Today on our 2011 Ford Explorer well be test fitting the Yakima Railgrab roof rack system
using part numbers Y00409 and Y00138. With our vehicle equipped with the factory side
rails and our roof rack system preassembled according to the fit kit instructions, well
go ahead and fit them to the vehicle. Well begin by setting the front crossbar on top
of the side rails. Well find a fixed location on both side rails and measure from that location
back on the side rail. Well need to keep these identical as it will help the front crossbar
to stay perpendicular with the side rails for ease of loading our accessories. With
our front crossbar located in the same place on both side rails well simply tighten down
the black Allen head bolt using the included Allen wrench with your roof rack system.
Now that our front crossbars secure well go ahead and move on to our rear crossbar. Again,
well set it on top of the factory side rails. This time well need to do a measurement from
the center of the front crossbar to the center of the rear crossbar. While doing this measurement,
Yakimas maximum crossbar spread is 46 inches. Were going to go ahead and set ours to 30
inches to properly fit
our accessories.
