Right now the state of North Carolina, any person giving blood must be minimum age of
17 years old, some states however are using 16 years old, so be sure to check with your
local group to see what the local age requirements is for you in your local area, but right now
it is 17, it's just an arbitrary number, the state have determined eligibility for adequate
to make the determination you can give blood, right now 17 years old for the state of North
Carolina. You can't be too old to give blood, the American Red Cross have on upper age limit,
it has changed 2 or 3 times in my 25 years hear, most recent about 15 years ago we did
draw up the upper age limit because living longer, their living healthier lives, more
active as they get older, so there's no need, to exclude, that donor group that's a visile
donor group, so they are more popular donor group, is world war 2 vets, people coming
out of that area, are always great blood donor, they are still great blood donors, so we take
them, there is no upper age limit to give blood for the red cross.
