Welcome to the Built for Training series, "Operation--
Ace an Adventure Race." This week, we're on Reebok's Spartan Race
training course to get the ins and outs of the obstacles you might face
on race day.
Obviously, we got walls that Spartan racers climb over.
And they vary in heights.
How do you get over those?
It's going to require some athleticism; but really, confidence.
I think most people get stuck in that they can't visualize how they can
possibly get over the wall because that's not what they do every day.
Confidence is key because if you slow down, it's like riding a bike, you'll
probably fall off.
The Hercules Hoist.
So I like to grab up as high as I can, and then sit down, so you're not doing
as much work.
We've got Traverse Walls.
Traverse Walls simulate rock climbing.
The key here is feet first.
So you get your foot out first.
Foot first, my hands is back.
Now, my hand goes forward.
We've got crawls.
You got to crawl under barbed wire, you got to crawl under logs, whatever
obstacle we throw your way.
And we found the quickest way to get through that is rolling.
So tucking your arms in and rolling.
Then lift it up, bend the legs, kind of like a tire flip.
Tarzan Swing is not fun.
It's fun to look at.
It's fun to think about.
But when we actually get on this thing, it's tough.
You grab one rope lightly and relax, swinging to the next one.
When you're done with the Spartan Race, we like to say you're going to
build obstacle immunity.
So the kids screaming in the background, the coffee not being the
right temperature, your car not starting, not a big deal anymore
because you had to deal with fire, barbed wire, climbing over walls,
rain, mud, you name it.
So get out here and try one, see what you got.
