Before my mission I didn't really know what I was doing. I had some ideas of what I might
like to do, but I wasn't really grounded. And on my mission I actually felt prompted
to go to the LDS Business College. So I made those plans and I got off my mission and started
making things happen to head out here. As soon as I walked onto the LDS Business College
campus, I felt the difference. Having the spirit here, as you are learning, has made
a huge difference. And you can feel it. When you're in the classroom, you start with a
prayer and invite the spirit to attend the class. And it has made a tremendous difference
in my education here. Going to school in Salt Lake City is awesome. Your campus includes
the Assembly Hall where we have devotional and it includes the Tabernacle where you have
graduation. It includes the Salt Lake Temple where you can go and have some spiritual rejuvenation.
It's a really cool thing knowing that that's where you're going to school, that's where
you're learning, that's your college experience. I had the opportunity to work on a project.
We ended up going to a local restaurant here and sitting down with the manager to interview
them about their marketing, their public relations, and their training processes.
Through that project... It was taking the principles we were learning in our textbook and in the class,
and actually seeing them in action and applying them. I am currently an associate instructional
designer for the Publishing Services Department at the (LDS) Church. There's no way I would
be there if it wasn't for the things I learned and the experiences I had here at the
LDS Business College. The social experience here is diversified to say the least. You have a little
bit of everything. You have people from all over the world, coming together. There are
tons of clubs and there's always something to do. And if there's not something to do
that you like, you can start a club about it. That's actually what I did when I first
got here. I started the Play Theory Club which is a principle-based improv club. I felt like
I had a lot to contribute in that capacity. I started the club and as we continued developing
the principles that we cultivate in the club it started growing. We had over 200 people
coming to the shows and it made a big impact on the participants. I think that LDS Business College
creates an environment where you feel safe to explore and you know that it's okay
to go out of your comfort zone because you have people that care about you and want you
to succeed. I feel like the school does that in a lot of ways. It creates that environment
where you can really discover yourself, feel confident, and do things that you probably
wouldn't have in the past. Nowhere else are you going to find a college experience with
the support system that's in place here, the spiritual emphasis, and the real-life experience
that comes along with the environment here at the LDS Business College. My experience
at LDS Business College helped me develop professional qualities that will help me throughout
my life moving forward. My experience at LDS Business College opened my eyes to the opportunities
to serve and lift those around me. Really, the LDS Business College helped me realize
my potential and have the confidence to pursue it. My name is Neal Hooper and this is
my experience.
