how to use the Read&write Gold's Fact Mapper as a strategy for helping students to
organize main ideas and details for writing To help students with
organizing for writing first they must be able to determine the main ideas
and supporting details from what they read give students a passage to read on a
specific topic and allow them to use Read&Write Gold's
text to speech engine if needed
next give students a list like this one of
the main points from the reading but be sure the points are mixed up from the
order
originally presented click on fact mapper
in order to launch the fact mapper and be sure
allow access so that students can begin using
this the brainstorm mode by clicking on brainstorm mode
they will allow themselves to place as many
elements on the screen as they need in order to have an element
corresponding for each item on the list given once they have
added an element for each item on the list have them label
each element
once all items are on the screen ask students to group them
by what they have in common and then by position in the document in which they
read
moving the elements around is easy
and when they're ready to link them simply click
link and click in order to show the relationship between and among
the elements this is what the student screen should look like once they have added
all the elements
and labeled each one then this is what the screen should look like
once they have been able to link up each one the elements to show
how it relates to each the others fact mapper is a perfect tool
for showing main idea and supporting details
in a very visual way in the lower right hand corner
is a box marked search in the search box
students can find pictures to add a more
visual way looking at how they're going to organize what they're going to write
to switch from a fact map
to a document outline click here on file
and then you will receive
and outline that looks like this from here it can be
converted into Word and students can continue to go back to the original
document
and look for details that the author has used to support each main point
