So what are the owners and users actually saying about their experience with the Shure
SRH440? Well, Reviewer #1 Says,
"I don't think you can buy a better set of non-noise canceling cans for around $100."
He also says that they hug his very average sized head just right, and finds them to be
"...comfortable for hours at a time" He appreciates that the replaceable soft pads
are made of real leather, not the cheap stuff. And as for sound quality, he says, "The highs,
mids, and lows are completley balanced," and that "...everything is extremely clear
and life-like." Reviewer #2 would definitely give them a
5 star rating because, as he says, "...this is the best closed, circumaural pair
you can buy under $100." and "The sound quality is absolutely stunning."
He found that, after using them for 100 hours, you will see a sharp rise in sound quality,
And he recommends them for both the audiophile and
for the casual listeners who want "...a solid pair of headphones with very good
sound quality. " After having used his set for about a year
and a half, Reviewer #3 calls them "...great value for money,"
but with a few shortcomings. He finds them to be comfortable for about
1-2 hours. After that, the firm squeeze which gives them
such great sound isolation brings strain on his ears and scalp.
But he does say that the tight fit makes good passive sound isolation,
and that the sound quality is superb for the price point with
"Strong bass and crisp upper range." And he finishes by saying, "For the price
point, it is hard to find a better set of around-the-ear headphones."
Reviewer #4 says that he bought his Shure SRH440 to use them for tracking vocals in
his recording studio, and says, "Overall, I definitely recommend these phones..."
for tracking vocals and he says that he could listen to the sound
of these headphones all day, but he wouldn't want to wear these headphones
all day because they are too tight on his head.
The snug fit gives them good sound isolation, but the pressure gets to him after a while.
But as far as the sound is concerned, he says, "The sound is what I would expect from Shure...that
is great sound (good balance with lows/mids/highs) and I could listen to that sound all day."
After using his new SHR 440 headphones for two weeks Reviewer #5 says that
they surpassed his highly rated Sony headphones so that he
heard sounds in the music that he had never heard before, especially on the high end.
What he doesn't really like is that after a while the cord starts to feel heavy,
and after an hour or so the pressure of the cups
around his ears starts to cause some discomfort. However, in his opinion,
"The overall sound spectrum is very well defined, and
"...they appear to be well constructed..." Reviewer #6 uses his headphones for musician
monitoring while tracking and says, "These sound superb!" and calls them
"The Best I've found." He finds them to be good for studio monitoring
because they are flat across the whole frequency range with
No "hyped bass," and even at half volume he can hear everything
perfectly. He also finds the outside noise isolation to be very good. One
thing that he doesn't like is that they seem a bit on the heavy side, so that they can
get tiring during extended use. But in summary he calls them,
"Overall, excellent quality and a great *** for your buck."
Reviewer #7 says that he was "Very impressed!" with the SHR 440 headphones,
and "Yes, I would recommend this to a friend"
because he likes the Clear sound, and he finds them
Durable and Light weight. He thinks they are great for
Home studio and for Professional recording. He disagrees with
the reviewers who find them to be uncomfortable, because, he says,
"These are superbly comfortable headphones!" with
Incredible sound, and that "I highly recommend these headphones. Considering
the price, it's a no-brainer." But Reviewer #8 has some reservations about
the SHR 440, because, although he likes the Clear sound and finds them to be
Easy to use and a Versatile set of headphones for
Ameteur recording and Home studio, in his opinion, they have a
Mediocre bass response, and says they Break easily because they are made of
Cheap plastic material, so that his only lasted for two years of frequent use. His opinion
of the sound is that "The Treble and the Mid frequency response
is extremely good but the Bass could have been much better."
And they started to be uncomfortable after an hour or two.
Reviewer #9 likes the SHR 440 headphones for their
"Clear, accurate sound," and thinks that their clear sound makes them good for
Mixing, Amateur recording and for
Home studio. He says, "I love these so much because the sound is
so clear and accurate," though he does also say that
"...after hours of use the earpads get hot and feel very heavy."
The initial impression of Reviewer #10 about the Shure SHR 440 headphones was that
"they were cheaper than some of the others, but better sound and comfort than the other
DJ style headphones, "and they also Fit his budget.
After 2 1/2 year of use, they have finally completed the burn-in process, so that
"The music, especially the mids/base finally feel like they have smoothed out..."
Reviewer #11 likes their Great sound quality and
Rugged construction, though he says that they get
Uncomfortable after about 30 minutes of listening, but he says,
"The sound quality is great" with Amazing mids and highs, so that
"You can clearly hear each instrument separately." And finally, Reviewer #12 says, after having
had his for just one week, that he loves the "Robust," musical, nicely balanced sound,
which, he says, is great for different kinds of music, but is
"...especially good for classical choral music." He also appreciates the
Low price, and says that they Seem pretty well made, but they
Start to feel a bit heavy after an hour or so.
