D'you know that moment, when you're in town, maybe you went out
shopping for a
specific item, maybe you're just
window shopping, but anyway, you SEE something
and you're like
"Ooh! Shiny! That's really pretty!
I've got to have it!"? I'm Rachel Papworth from Green and Tidy
and, today, I'm gonna give you a little tip, to help you to resist that
impulse buy. So, yes, you know that moment?
Well I give you these cocktail stirrers.
Six glass cocktail stirrers with little, pretty
things on the end. One's got a flower, one's got a lemon slice,
one's got a fish. I saw these on sale and I was completely hooked.
There were loads and loads of different designs, and I was like, "Ooh! I really like them!
And I ended up buying six for me, and I bought another six for,
you know, a kind of random present, somebody that might need a present
one day and I could give it to them. And that was ten years ago
and they've lived in my cupboard ever since, and I've never used them because, really, who actually ever uses a
cocktail swizzler? And, what's more, even though they were really carefully stored, wrapped in bubble wrap, this one
here, the flower, one of its petals is broken off, because they're really delicate, made of glass
and they've got little, tiny bits sticking out all over them. So here's my tip.
When you see that thing, in the shop, and you're like "Ooh! That's so
pretty! I really, really want it!", just take a step back,
take a breath, and think: "Am I really gonna use this thing?"
If I'd thought about that with these, I was never gonna
use a cocktail swizzler! "Where am I gonna store it?"
"Have I actually got somewhere to put this?" And, "How practical is it?" You know, with a little bit of thought, it might have occurred to me
that a cocktail swizzler with lots of tiny, little
glass bits sticking off the top of it, wasn't actually very practical. So, next time you're in a shop
and you spot something that catches your eye, just take one moment to have a think about
whether you really want to buy that item, and maybe that'll help you
not to make that impulse purchase. 'Til next time!
