The following visual quick guide is intended to assist you with the proper application
of TrafficPatterns®. Always follow the application instructions provided with the TrafficPatterns®
material. TrafficPatterns® is pre-cut and ready to use right out of the box for application
on asphalt or concrete. Templates and grids are not required as with asphalt imprinting
products. Installing TrafficPatterns® is fast, safe, and cost effective with an industrial
heat torch such as the Flint 2000EX or the Magnum Heat Torch. With minimal preparation
and clean up, the following tools are all that are needed. Propane Heat Torch, Gas Powered
Blower or Broom, Chalk and Chalk Snap Line, Tape Measure, Hammer and Chisel (Putty Knife),
TrafficPatterns® Sealer Gun and Sealer. A radiant or infrared heater can be used for
large application areas. TrafficPatterns® is applied using three simple steps. Prepare,
Position, and Heat. It's that easy! The following segment illustrates the application of a six
feet wide crosswalk using a propane heat torch and the TrafficPatterns® Running Bond surface
pattern. Step 1: Prepare Surface, snap a chalk line to mark the width of the crosswalk application
area. Use a blower or broom to remove debris from the area of application. Preheating the
surface to a specific temperature is not required. However, the surface must be dry. Ensure that
no moister is present by drying the application area with a propane torch. One TrafficPatterns®
sealer cartridge covers approximately forty five square feet of an application area. Dispense
the pre-filled cartridge of TrafficPatterns® sealer only within the area where material
will be applied. Based on this six feet wide example the sealer will be applied within
the first three rows of material. Using a roller spread the sealer evenly leaving a
light shiny coat. Do no wait for the sealer to cure up before apply the TrafficPatterns®
material. Step 2: Position Material, position the first three rows of material so that the
edges of adjacent sheets fit snugly together and the patter aligns properly from sheet
to sheet. The individual sheets of TrafficPatterns® material should be handled with the plastic
divider sheet from within the package. Remove the plastic just prior to positioning the
material. Step 3: Heat Material, immediately after positioning the TrafficPatterns® sheets
heat the material with a propane heat torch such as the Flint 2000EX or the Magnum Heat
Torch. If using the Flint 2000EX Heat Torch, move the torch in a sweeping motion approximately
two feet wide over the material at a height of four to eight inches above the material.
So that the heat is evenly applied and the material begins to melt. If using the Magnum
Heat Torch use the preset pilot valve setting and move the torch in a sweeping motion approximately
two feet wide over the material at a height of no less than six inches. Alternatively,
if the Magnum Heat Torch is used at high power, move the torch quickly over the material at
a minimum height f eighteen to twenty-four inches above the material. Heat the material
until the indents in the surface close. The closing of these indents provide a visual
cue that the material has reached a molten state and proper embedment of the skid resistant
corundum has been achieved. Consequently all seems should be closed without visible gaps
as a result of the material flowing together. The material will cool within a couple of
minutes. Check for proper bond using a chisel. If evidence of asphalt is on the underside
of the material, sufficient heat has been applied, if not apply more heat until adequate
bonding has occurred. Repeat the position and heat process until all material has been
applied within the entire application area. The following general surface and material
requirements are important to keep in mind. TrafficPatterns® material should be kept
dry at all times. Do not apply TrafficPatterns® on top of existing markings or coatings. Handle
with care in temperatures below 50° as it may be less flexible. Packages should be stored
flat and stacked a maximum of twenty-five packs high. During cold weather applications
any residual salts or deicing chemicals must be removed before application. For more information
