A Tuhoe leader says it'll be years before the relationship is healed
between Tuhoe and the police.
Tamati Kruger is the Lead Negotiator of the Tuhoe Treaty claims.
He was called as a defence witness during the Urewera trial.
He spoke to us a short time ago.
My interpretation of this issue is that it's not over.
The Crown has said that the case may reopen
in May to settle on sentences,
and everyone will be back if only to see the severity of the sentences.
That's where we'll hear whether the Crown will reconsider their charges
and take it back to court
or if they will decide that it's over – leave it as it is.
Tuhoe, and it seems the rest of NZ as well wish for an end
to this issue in court, but that's just the way it is.
In the last four years,
there have been so many slanderous accusations against us
and we've heard the thoughts of the jury concerning the arms charges.
Their thoughts can be put aside as they are what they are.
We've also heard what they think about the allegations of this being
a terrorist group bent on hateful activities
and we are happy that they didn't believe those allegations.
In this, they were unanimous which means a lot.
