Erik: How do you define citizenship?
Matt: Wow... it's funny, you know citizenship... it's one of those questions, it's one of those
words that came up when I was in third grade or fifth grade when I was in boy scouts...
it is hard to define... to me, my definition of citizenship is helping make your community
a better place, building up your community and leaving it better than it was before you
were here, it's the same idea as when you go camping. We each have such a huge footprint
in this community, we add garbage to the community, we live in our apartments or our houses and
we drive our cars, we have to do things to make this a better place and better than how
we found it. So my definition is probably about volunteering, donating, donating your
time and donating your money, voting and being engaged. I think so few, few people vote anymore,
it's so disheartening when I see how low the numbers of voter turnout can be in different
races. And being engaged, following the issues, it's not hard to do, it's actually fun to
do, the folks who I know who are engaged really enjoy it; it seems to really add to their
life.
