The population of the world is seven billion, of which 2.4 billion
people now use the internet;
of which
one billion unique users
go on YouTube every month.
Let us not forget the approximate one point six billion people who are banned from watching
YouTube in their country mainly because of religion and politics. And all these
people create a whopping four billion views per day. So, just what are the
chances of getting your video some of this action?
Well, to start with, seventy two hours of footage are uploaded every minute
and with the average YouTube video being four minutes and twelve seconds that means
that when you upload your film
you're competing with over one point four million other videos also being uploaded
on any given day
and that isn't even counting the videos already on YouTube. There's actually more
chance of Obama becoming a dictator than your video getting five hundred views on
YouTube.
According to Erik Rush anyway.
In fact, you have more chance of getting shot; dating a millionaire;
or being flown by a drunken pilot than getting ten thousand views for your video.
If you want a hundred thousand views there are higher odds that you'll
get injured by a toilet;
guess someones pin before the card is swallowed;
or be considered possessed by Satan. And you are more likely to die
falling out of bed then get to one million hits.
So what's the point of even trying to get your video seen by the masses ?
Well, Chuck Testa received over thirteen point five million views when his taxidermy
advert went viral, creating a huge buzz around his business.
It's alleged that 'Charlie Bit my Finger' made the family more than a hundred
thousand pounds.
YouTube comedy star Shane Dawson reportedly makes two hundred thousand
dollars per year
Justin Bieber was discovered on YouTube after his mother uploaded a film of
him singing mainly to show friends and family. Justin Bieber is now worth a reported
one hundred and ten million.
That's the point,
on YouTube
anything is possible.
