So, this is our last...
might be our last hotel night in Morocco. We had the option of staying at a
resort outside of town but, we thought we'd get another real experience.
Definitely worthwhile. Our guide picked a place that was
in in in the medina. (Patricia) Well, he offered us a place outside of
Marrakech.
I said 'Well, you know. How often do you come to Marrakech for
the ambiance and hustle bustle.' Chris said "Definitely not."
(Chris) I had no desire to sit by the pool.
(Patricia) Fine. So then they got us this place in the medina.
You zigzag all over just to get here. Patricia is going to give you the special tour.
Come on in.
So, this is the reception area and this is
our very friendly riad owner?
- No no no. I am honored to be the receptionist.
- The receptionist? Okay. He was very
hospitable in greeting us
in the beautiful courtyard here.
Because we're open on the outside
we are able to have live plants and even this
beautiful live tree that still continues to grow.
It's a shame that you can't have
this sense on film because
it smells like rose water
in here. It's just so calming
and soothing. So again,
a riad is a guest house. So, this house
is your house. We enjoyed a beautiful tray of tea. Moroccan mint tea
and some sweet. Now, we'll go upstairs
and see what our room looks like.
Most of the places here,
not only in Europe but, also in these countries do not
have elevators.
It can be a challenge in
getting up some of the staircases.
Here in Morocco
they love to have high
steps. I'm not sure what that is
but we're going to measure them. Here we are. This is our floor.
Taking a look
at our view when we open the door.
It's quite nice. You can see the courtyard below
(Chris) Wrong door. It's that one.
Come on in.
Ready? Here we go.
Shazam! Look at that.
Isn't that just
beautiful? Let me start with the bed.
This is our king size bed.
It has a nice step up. We even have
a walking stick here. There's one on each side.
I'm not quite sure what this is all about.
Maybe it's their way of
waking people. Their alarm clocks.
We've got these
really cool lights happening here.
So elaborate. Rather than a headboard, just look at the beautiful tiles.
Turn around and take a look at the view
you see when you're laying in bed. Nice.
Air conditioner up there as well to keep things nice and comfortable.
Here's our window. Let's not forget about that. Take a look at the shutters.
Very nice. It lets in some more natural light if you're so inclined.
Flat screen TV.
Take a look at this room. This is kinda like the hallway.
The ceiling is just
so eccentric. Beautiful. That's a great light.
Here is our hall closet up in here
with safe.
More closet space here.
This is the bathroom. Wow!
Look at that shower. Isn't that just spectacular?
That's awesome. We have a his and her's sink.
Look, they even have Glade
spray or room freshener here.
Here is your toilet. Take a look at the ceiling as well. It's almost like an
inverted bathtub
up there. I'm almost expecting to see a switch
come down that switches things around.
So, if you want to take a bath, you can take a bath. Oh, and one other thing too,
they have robes.
They have robes. His and her bathrobes.
What color do you want?
Ahhh. So we just finished walking some of the medina and souk
from our current riad.
Which is lovely. You saw Patricia's tour.
We're on the roof. As soon as we came in the door,
the night reception guy immediately offered us tea
which is fantastic. We decided to take it on the terrace.
I will show you the terrace since Patricia showed you everything else.
The view is not as spectacular as Essaouira
which is understandable. Still not too shabby.
You get a nice sky view.
And what have we got here? We've got a bar.
Nice bar back there. I really dig these lights.
A pretty nice accent. They've got this
couch sitting area back there. If you want to have a chill.
You can look over the edge. Straight down
to where the rooms are and the central courtyard.
Some more of those awesome lights behind me.
And of course, for the lazy lazy sunbathers.
Catch some rays. Definitely recommend this place.
Definitely a great place to stay if you're in Marrakech and want to be
in the center... Actually, this isn't even in the centre of all the craziness.
It's within a short walk of the craziness but, down a quiet alley.
Ah. Patricia says "you can hear the snake charmers from the
Jemaa El Fna square."
Maybe she's got better ears than me.
