WKU’s Writing Center is here to help all student writers on campus, not just struggling
writers. Sometimes people assume that only weak writers need the help of a writing center,
but all writers can benefit from feedback to make their writing clearer and stronger.
Professors and other professional writers regularly seek help from their peers as they
revise their work for publication. That kind of careful peer feedback is what the writing
center tutors can offer WKU students. Our tutors are not experts in your subject area,
but they are trained to ask questions and offer suggestions to help you:
brainstorm ideas before you write clarify your main points
organize your essays effectively strengthen your logic and supporting evidence
integrate and cite your sources properly vary the style of your sentences
learn to proofread for your own errors and mistakes
What can you expect if you come to the Writing Center?
It’s important to involve you in discussions about your writing so you can improve as a
writer. To help you learn, we won’t revise your papers for you, but we will discuss revisions
with you. So when you come to the Writing Center, be
ready to participate in a conversation about your writing, not to just sit and listen.
Why wouldn’t someone want to benefit from this feedback to improve as a writer? Many
people who don’t visit the writing center wait to write until the last minute, leaving
no time for feedback and revision. Why settle for a rushed, one-draft job that doesn’t
reflect the best writing you could produce when you could do so much better with a little
more time for feedback and revision?
